Nano Rare Earth Oxide for Multi-Layer Ceramic Capacitor (MLCC)

MLCC, Multi-layer ceramic capacitors, are one of the chip elements with the largest application quantity and fastest developing speed. Compared with traditional capacitor products, MLCC enjoy advantages such as small volume, large capacity, high efficiency, low cost, etc., and are widely applied electronics, master boards, displayers and flat-panel TVs, micro-wave base stations, cordless telephones, satellite TV receivers, military radars etc.

The structure of MLCC can be divided into three parts: ceramic dielectric, inner metal electrode and outer metal electrode, among which BaTiO3 is used as the main ceramic dielectric. The main reason of using BaTiO3 as dielectric material lies in its high dielectric constant in ambient temperature condition. However, BaTiO3 has its own deficiency. In ambient temperature, BaTiO3 material has high which demands modification before using as dielectric medium applied to capacitors. Currently, rare earth elements, such as Yttrium oxide Y2O3, Holmium oxide Ho2O3, Dysprosium oxide Dy2O3, Samarium oxide Sm2O3, Neodymium oxide Nd2O3, Praseodymium oxide Pr6O11,Gadolinium oxide Gd2O3 and others are applied for modification to make ceramic dielectric with thin layers, large capacity and other properties.
